Stop-Motion Experiment

Today I made some random stencil letters out of old scrap paper. I liked to play about with the size and shape of the letter. I also loved the idea of making a stop-motion type experiment by taking a lot of images of the word REUSE moving into many different ways.

Making a Typeface Out of Recyclables

Straws
Leaves
Newspaper
Bubble Wrap
Tape

Over the weekend i've been designing typefaces using trial materials we could use for our final installation for our exhibition. I believe the most successful form of media was the leaves letterform, in terms of making and final outcome. I think i am going to make my final word 'Treasure' out of this!

Collecting Sustainable Materials

....A week collecting cardboard, bottle caps, bubble wrap, cutting stencils, cutting newspaper making homemade glue, cutting plants, shaping plants, glue-gun burns.......a designers dream!

9in Height

One of our themes for the exhibition is 'One Mans Trash is a Designers Treasure'. It is a twist to the commonly used saying 'One Mans Trash is another Mans Treasure'. We thought it would suit great with my group reusing sustainable materials throughout our designs.

Each of us picked a word from this sentence and are going to create it using different forms of sustainable media e.g-  plants, Cardboard, Bottle caps etc. Each of the words will each be individually structured throughout its size (tall, 3D, 2D) and typeface style. In the end it will be a main piece of work at our exhibition space, this way it will allow the reader to walk around and interact.

REUSE/RECYCLE/RESPECT

I created a possible exhibition poster we could use out of palm tree leaves (much like the idea I did with making the alphabet out of reed plants). This is all handmade and took time and effort to make each of them. I really like the result plant materials make throughout this type of work but it takes time to make it successfully and A LOT of resourceful plants to make them out of.

This is a rough draft of what I could create out of the I Reuse / I Recycle / I Respect theme I was going with in my earlier work. Again, all handmade.

Mood Board

This week as part of our Business Studies class every tuesday we were summoned to produce a mood board and describe in topic form WHO, WHAT, WHERE and WHY we are doing this exhibition. Apparently its a dragons den type format....this new tutor is a little ambitious when it comes to her ideas it seems.
